Tulsa Police Chief Wendell Franklin discussed several recent violent encounters that his agency had to recently engaged in and noted that assaults against his officers had increased 53% in the first half of 2020 over the first half of 2019 — up to 95 from 62.
The Tulsa World reported that statewide, 843 assaults on officers were reported in 2019, which is the lowest number since 799 in 2015, according to Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation uniform crime data. Across Oklahoma, 918, 946 and 995 assaults on officers were reported in 2016, 2017 and 2018, respectively.
